NEULOG DROP COUNTER SENSOR GUIDE
NeuLog drop counter sensor
NUL-223 Carolina # 369652
The NeuLog drop counter sensor can be used for any science experiment which
utilizes fluid drip rates particularly in the fields of Chemistry and Biology.
The sensor comes pre-calibrated so you can start experimentation right out of the box
using any of the following guides.
The NeuLog drop counter sensor excels in the laboratory but can also be used in the
field for a number of experiments in various configurations. Titrations for example
become much more accurate as you can determine both the total number of drops
and the total volume which has passed through the drop counter sensor.
The drop counter sensor uses the following units of measure:
Drops: The number of times a drop of liquid has passed through the drop
counter sensor.
Milliliters (mL): The SI unit of volume. The NeuLog drop counter sensor
calculates the rough volume of the drops which pass through it.
Setting up the drop counter sensor:
There are a number of ways to set up the NeuLog drop counter sensor to give
accurate readings. The drop counter gate includes three threaded holes and threaded
utility rod which can be attached to various lab equipment to offer many different
orientations in which you can use the drop counter sensor in your lab.
The most important aspect of setting up the drop counter sensor is to ensure that the
drops of liquid are passing through the sensor correctly. As seen in the figure below,
you will want to orient the sensor so that drops will pass through the infrared beam
which is transmitted between the ends of the drop counter sensor.
Quick start procedure:
PC or Mac Computer
Materials needed:
NUL-223 Drop Counter Sensor
USB-200 USB Module
A USB to mini USB cable (which comes with the USB-200)
Your drop counter sensor needs to be connected to a USB-200 module. The USB-
200 module then connects to a computer via a USB to mini-USB cable. Please note
that you cannot plug the drop counter sensor directly into the computer.
Resident PC software and browser based software can be downloaded for free at
www.NeuLog.com/dowload as well as a full software user guide. Note: Make sure not
to download and install both types of software, they will conflict on the computer.
Procedure:
1. Install the NeuLog software
2. Connect the USB-200 module to the PC or Mac
3. Connect the drop counter sensor to the USB-200 module (they directly plug
together). Please note there is no calibration required for this sensor.
4. Open the NeuLog software.
5. Once a drop counter sensor logo appears on the left side of the screen the
probe has been automatically identified and you can begin experimentation.
6. If the drop counter sensor is not automatically identified then click the
“Search for sensors” icon to find the sensor.
7. Select the “On-line experiment” button; this will open a graph below.
8. Click on the “Module setup” button located on the drop counter sensor icon
in the module window to change the sensor settings if need be.
